Talks Across the Room, Differences Still on the Table

The news context

US envoy Steve Witkoff said mediators moved between the delegations during Tuesday’s talks. Trump described the discussions as productive, while an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson confirmed Qatari mediation and reiterated Iran’s demands. Reports differed on whether officials met directly; neither side announced an agreement. The Strait of Hormuz remains central to the dispute because of its importance to oil shipping.
